LETHBRIDGE, AB – When it comes to undergraduate studies, the University of Lethbridge is one of the best in the country.

Macleans has released its annual rankings of universities in Canada with several different categories.

“It’s exciting to see the efforts of our faculty, staff and students recognized, because it takes our entire community working together to achieve success,” says U of L President and Vice-Chancellor Dr. Mike Mahon. “We strive at every level to provide the best student experience, academic experience and research experience for our community of learners and teachers. We believe we offer the best option in the country and one of the best experiences in the world, so it is gratifying to see this reflected in the ranking metrics.”

For their list of the “Top Primarily Undergraduate Schools 2021”, they focused on schools that have fewer graduate programs and graduate students and place a heavier emphasis on undergraduate studies.

In that category, the U of L was the second-best, rising from fifth place last year. The university is behind only Mount Allison in New Brunswick.

There are 11 subcategories that go into this ranking.

Out of the 19 undergraduate universities analyzed, the U of L excelled at medical/science grants (second-best) and library acquisitions (3). This was followed by student services (4) and student awards (5).

It faired the worst in terms of faculty awards (12) and scholarships & bursaries (18).

In terms of student satisfaction, the U of L was the eighth-best in the country and the sixth when it came to a reputational survey.

Macleans also looked into nine popular programs and ranked each university for how good theirs is. It should be noted that this includes all universities and not just the ones that are primarily-undergraduate.

The U of L made it into the top 20 for two programs – education (13) and nursing (18).
