Active COVID cases in South Zone hits triple digits with rise in Lethbridge & County

LETHBRIDGE, AB — Alberta Health Services has released Friday’s report on COVID-19, detailing the numbers over the past 24 hours.

281 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 19,995. Of those, 2,225 cases are active while 17,488 people have recovered.

Over half of the new infections (157) were in the Edmonton Health Zone.

In the South Zone, 13 people tested positive with six in Lethbridge, four in Lethbridge County, two in the County of Forty Mile, and one in the County of Warner.

The region now has 102 active cases.

There were no additional COVID-19 deaths, meaning the virus has still claimed the lives of 282 in Alberta.

Province-wide, 86 patients are currently hospitalized and 11 have been admitted to intensive care units.

1,498,064 tests have been completed among 1,110,134 different people.

The regional breakdown for COVID-19 in Alberta is as follows:

  • Calgary zone – 9,385 cases, 628 active
    • 131 deaths
    • 35 in hospital, six in ICU
  • Edmonton zone – 6,397 cases, 1,329 active
    • 83 deaths
    • 39 in hospital, four in ICU
  • South zone – 1,926 cases, 102 active
    • 26 deaths
    • Three in hospital, one in ICU
  • North zone – 1,523 cases, 105 active
    • 35 deaths
    • Six in hospital
  • Central zone – 717 cases, 50 active
    • Seven deaths
    • Three in hospital

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community is as follows:

  • Brooks – 1,132 cases, three active, nine deaths
  • Lethbridge – 222 cases (six new), 49 active, two deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 92 cases (two new), 19 active, one death
    • South Lethbridge – 79 cases (four new), 19 active
    • North Lethbridge – 51 cases, 11 active, one death
  • Cardston County – 106 cases, three active, five deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 90 cases (four new), 37 active
  • Medicine Hat – 84 cases, three active, two deaths
  • County of Warner – 64 cases (one new), two active, one death
  • M.D. of Taber – 44 cases, one active
  • County of Forty Mile – 42 cases (two new), three active
  • Cypress County – 33 cases, one active
  • County of Newell – 33 cases, one active, two deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 33 cases, zero active, three deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 27 cases, zero active, two deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – Two cases, zero active
