Lethbridge-Medicine Hat region posts 8.6 percent jobless rate in September, unchanged from August

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Unemployment in the region did not change from August to September.

The latest numbers are out, and the jobless rate in the Lethbridge-Medicine Hat region was at 8.6 percent in September, unchanged from the 8.6 percent posted in August.

Once again, the Lethbridge-Medicine Hat economic sector listed the lowest unemployment rate in the province of Alberta.

The provincial jobless rate was 11.7 percent, down slightly from August’s 11.8 percent.

Below is a breakdown of Alberta’s different economic regions’ unemployment rate for September, with their rate for August listed in parenthesis:

  • Edmonton: 13.0 percent (14.1)
  • Calgary: 12.5 percent (14.2)
  • Camrose-Drumheller: 12.4 percent (13.4)
  • Red Deer: 12.1 percent (12.9)
  • Wood Buffalo-Cold Lake: 11.4 percent (11.8)
  • Banff-Jasper-Rocky Mountain House and Athabasca-Grande Prairie-Peace River: 11.2 percent (12.1)
  • Lethbridge-Medicine Hat: 8.6 percent (8.6)

For the youth demographic (ages 15-24, males and females combined), the rate was 24.9 percent. In the adult range (ages 25 and up, males and females combined), the rate was 9.8 percent.

COUNTRY-WIDE UNEMPLOYMENT RATE

Canada-wide, the unemployment rate was 9.0 percent, continuing its downward slide from the record-high of 13.7 percent recorded in May.

Economists had predicted the nation-wide unemployment rate for September would be 9.7 percent.
