COVID-19 cases confirmed at three Lethbridge schools

Oct 11, 2020 | 9:12 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge School Division says people at three of their schools have tested positive for COVID-19.

Alberta Health Services has confirmed cases at Victoria Park High School, Ecole Agnes Davidson, and Fleetwood-Bawden Elementary School.

UPDATE: On Monday evening, a COVID-19 case was also confirmed at Lakeview Elementary School. More details here.

They did not state if the effected persons are staff or students.

As each school has only seen one person test positive, they are not considered outbreaks.

Even by the “low threshold” of AHS, Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw says a school outbreak must have at least two confirmed cases.

“AHS Public Health is responsible for contact tracing – identifying and notifying all who have had close contact with the case. Public Health and the school will work closely together to ensure timely and accurate contact tracing. Close contacts will be called and instructed to quarantine for at least 14 days,” reads an advisory from the Lethbridge School Division.

“Public Health also has provided recommendations to the school about cleaning measures and other control measures to reduce the risk of further transmission. If you are not contacted, then your child is not a close contact and can attend school as usual following all public health guidance.”

Staff are undergoing enhanced cleaning protocols at the three schools.

The school schedule is set to proceed as normal for Monday, October 19.

Any questions or concerns can be directed to your child’s school.
