Holy Spirit confirms individual COVID-19 cases at two schools

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Holy Spirit Catholic School Division has confirmed individual cases of COVID-19 at two of its schools.

Families of students at Ecole St. Mary and St. Francis Junior High School, both in Lethbridge, have been informed of the situation. If identified as a close contact, affected individuals are required to isolate and follow directions provided by Alberta Health Services (AHS).

Because each school has only seen one person test positive and the cases are not considered outbreaks, Holy Spirit said both schools remain open and “on-alert”.

“In the meantime, the school division continues to work closely with AHS and Alberta Education to ensure that all necessary measures are in place to protect students and staff,” the division stated.

“Additional recommendations have been made to the schools about cleaning and other control measures to reduce the risk of further transmission.”

The division noted that details of those who tested positive will not be released. It was not said whether the cases involve a student or staff member at the schools.
