BANFF, AB – A wildfire northeast of Banff is no longer out of control.

Thanks to tireless efforts by fire crews and some snow over the weekend, the Devil’s Head fire is not expected to spread, according to officials.

Alberta Wildfire says the more than 24-square kilometres blaze is being held.

At the start of the Thanksgiving long weekend, the fire was still listed as ‘out of control’, but that status has since changed.

The province says heavy equipment and helicopters are in the process of demobilizing.

Last week, the Municipal District of Bighorn had issued a State of Local Emergency for the hamlet of Benchlands, Pears Road, Ghost County Place, Richards Road and West Jamieson Road.

That emergency measure has since been cancelled. Crews continue to monitor and manage the blaze.
