LETHBRIDGE, AB – Although on-court play is paused due to COVID-19, action is taking place behind-the-scenes for the University of Lethbridge Pronghorns.

The men’s basketball team has unveiled three new players for its 2020-2021 roster.

Paul Asebiode, Karter Fry and Deng Dak have joined the team, even as a decision on two-semester sports has yet to be made by Canada West.

The men’s basketball team has been safely training since mid-September.

Asebiode is a guard from Calgary and previously played for Bishop O’Bryne High School. As a senior, he averaged 17 points a game, along with six assists and five rebounds. He also played with the WIN Basketball club program, averaging 19 points, five assists and five rebounds per game.

Asebiode plans to pursue a degree in psychology.

Victoria’s Karter Fry averaged 24 points a game, along with 11 rebounds and six assists during his senior year with the St. Michael’s University School. The 6-foot-5 guard was named the Vancouver Island MVP and won a Vancouver Island AAA Championship.

Fry’s name has a strong link to U of L’s athletic history.

His grandfather Robin was the first head coach in Pronghorn men’s basketball team history. He coached the 1969-1970 season and returned to coach from 1973 to 1976.

Karter is also the cousin of Katie Keith, who graduated from the Pronghorn women’s basketball program after last season. His aunt, Dawn (Fry) Keith played three seasons for the ‘Horns in the 1980s.

Deng Dak comes from Brooks and spent last year with the Northstar Preparatory Institute in Winnipeg. In nine games with the team, the 6-foot-4 guard averaged 15.6 points and 7.4 rebounds.

Before his playing time in Winnipeg, Dak played at Brooks Composite High School and helped the Buffalos earn a bronze medal at the 2018 3A Provincial Championships.

Canada West is set to announce its decision on two-semester sports and the return to conference play on November 2, 2020.
