The list of schools reporting cases of COVID-19 continues to grow.

Late Wednesday afternoon, Dr. Cheryl Gilmore, Superintendent of Lethbridge Public Schools, issued a letter to staff and community members of Senator Joyce Fairbairn Middle School, indicating Alberta Health Services had identified one case of COVID-19 at the school.

AHS is in the process of identifying and notifying everyone who has had close contact with the case. Those individuals will need to quarantine for at least 14 days. In accordance with Alberta Health guidelines, personal details of the case will not be disclosed.

Public Health has provided recommendations to the school about cleaning measures and other control measures to reduce the risk of further transmission. If you are not contacted, then your child is not a close contact and can attend school as usual following all public health guidance.

The school schedule will proceed as normal on Monday, Oct. 19, 2020. In the meantime, the schools custodial team will conduct enhanced cleaning which will focus on areas where the individual was present along with high-touch areas and surfaces throughout the facility.

The Lethbridge School Division confirmed Tuesday afternoon of an infection at Lethbridge Collegiate Institute (LCI). There is also one case of the virus each at Lakeview Elementary, Victoria Park High School, Ecole Agnes Davidson, and Fleetwood-Bawden Elementary.

The Holy Spirit Catholic School Division hasn’t escaped COVID cases either.

On Thursday morning, Oct. 15, Holy Spirit confirmed to LNN an outbreak of COVID-19 at St. Teresa of Calcutta School. There are also two cases at St. Francis Junior High and one case at Ecole St. Mary.

In the school system, an outbreak is declared when the institution sees at least two positive cases.
