Warrant issued for Lethbridge man charged with “possible assault and abduction”

TABER, AB – UPDATE: Suspect Sean Horvath has been arrested. The victim has been located and is safe. The investigation is ongoing.

Taber Police have charged a man from Lethbridge in connection to a serious incident.

At approximately 6:15 pm on Thursday, October 15, officers were informed of a possible assault and abduction near Coaldale involving the occupants of an older-model Oldsmobile Cutlass car.

A second 911 call was later placed where the caller said they had an interaction with the driver of the Cutlass in Taber.

A media release from Taber Police states that the caller had “observed a person with a plastic bag covering their head and upper torso, in the passenger seat, who looked distressed.”

Police located the suspect vehicle and attempted to stop it, but the driver allegedly fled at a high rate of speed.

Due to the seriousness of the situation, the attending officers pursued the suspect.

“The vehicle attempted to ram Police, and managed to get away, but was recovered later in the evening.”

The investigation revealed that the suspect and victim were driven to Lethbridge by a third party. Police are still trying to locate the victim.

“The suspect and victim are believed to be known to each other and that this was not a random act.”

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Sean Horvath, 42, of Lethbridge.

He faces charges of flight from police, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, driving while prohibited, assaulting a police officer with a weapon, and breaching a release order.

As the investigation continues, Taber Police says additional charges may be laid.
