Motions added at previous council meetings include:

  • A 30-year non-tax-supported $17.8-million loan that will become available in 2022
  • The execution of a motion from 2017 to provide a $25-million grant
  • Approval of a site lease to Exhibition Park for 50 years
  • $3.8-million in debt owed to the city will be forgiven in exchange for 155.71 acres of land that Exhibition Park currently owns

Back in June of this year, Jason Kenney and the Alberta Government announced their involvement with the project and additional funding.

Now that the 2nd and 3rd readings have been passed at Lethbridge City Council, the final step to officially approve the bylaw will be next.

The decision on whether the project will go through or not has already been made months ago.

The project is projected to:

  • A 22 percent increase in event capacity
  • A food production capacity increase of more than 10 times the current amount

Construction on the project is set to begin in 2021.
