LETHBRIDGE, AB – A 35-year-old man has been charged with robbery following an incident with a local taxi driver.

Lethbridge Police say on Tuesday, October 20, a taxi driver reported he was robbed at knifepoint.

LPS noted that the driver dropped off three passengers at a residence in the 3500 block of 20 Avenue South. The fare was paid with a bank card and upon leaving the taxi, police say one of the passengers put a knife to the driver’s throat and “demanded he hand over all his money”.

The driver told the man he had no money and the individual walked away without further incident.

Police were notified of what happened, responded and set up a cordon around the address that the passengers were dropped off at. All three passengers exited the residence without incident.

Joe Zwart now faces a charge of robbery and is scheduled to be in court November 19, 2020.
