LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released Thursday report on COVID-19, detailing the numbers over the past 24 hours.

16 new infections occurred in the South Zone with 11 in Lethbridge, two in the M.D. of Taber, and one each in Lethbridge County, Cardston County, and Medicine Hat.

Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Deena Hinshaw says today’s province-wide numbers are the highest in Alberta since the beginning of the pandemic.

“These days right now are our chance to avoid stronger-measures we need to take it. Alberta, we have brought down our infection rates before and we can do it again. If you were waiting for that moment to start taking COVID seriously, to start going the extra mile, this is it.”

Currently, she says the highest rates of exposure are due to close contacts and are likely a direct result of large gatherings over the Thanksgiving long weekend.
