LETHBRIDGE, AB – A handful of new assistant coaches have been added to the Lethbridge College Kodiaks roster.

MEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Andre Arsenault has joined the men’s volleyball program. In a fun twist of fate, Arsenault used to play for current Kodiaks head coach Greg Gibos at W.P. Wagner High School in Edmonton.

He went on to a successful playing career, including two Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference all-star nods while suiting up for Medicine Hat College.

He completed his playing days as a libero with MacEwan University.

Arsenault also earned several accolades for overcoming adversity as a gay athlete and helping pave the way for LGBTQ+ athletes to succeed in post-secondary athletics.

“His biggest impact hasn’t been on the court, but how much he’s done for the game of volleyball in Alberta,” said Kodiaks head coach Gibos.

“Andre has been a coach with the Northern Alberta Volleyball Club (NAVC) which brought home three provincial championships. Along with this, he has also been the Director for Volleyball Alberta summer camps for three years. When you are looking at how many athletes Andre has positively impacted, it’s a huge number.”

Additionally, Arsenault is involved as the Technical Director for Pursuit Volley, an organization geared towards the development and growth of the sport across Alberta.

MEN’S SOCCER

Micaela Stone will move from minding the Kodiaks net to the sidelines as the club’s new goaltending coach. Stone transferred to Lethbridge College for the 2019 season and helped her team secure a first-place finish in the ACAC south division and an ACAC bronze medal.

MEN’S CROSS COUNTRY & INDOOR TRACK

Cross country and indoor track head coach Simon Schaerz will be adding a pair of new faces to his staff.

Ricardo Quesada will take on the role as the program’s resistance training coach.

A graduate of the college’s Exercise Science program, Quesada is also a registered CSEP-CPT.

In addition to Quesada joining the cross country crew, Nick Ontkean will join the coaching staff after helping the team as a strength coach last year.

Ontkean is a certified athletic therapist and will work exclusively with the speed and power group this season.

SCHEDULE UPDATE

The Kodiaks noted that the 2020-2021 ACAC basketball season is still delayed due to COVID-19, with sights set on a winter semester launch.
