AHS confirms death of Lethbridge senior due to COVID-19

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released Tuesday’s report on COVID-19, detailing the numbers over the past 24 hours.

422 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 26,155. Of those, 4,738 cases are active while 21,108 people have recovered.

That includes 22 new infections in the South Health Zone with 11 in Lethbridge, three in Lethbridge County, two each in Brooks, Medicine Hat, and the County of Newell, and one each in the M.D. of Taber and County of Forty Mile.

A spokesperson with AHS confirmed to LNN that a man from South Lethbridge in his 90’s died from COVID-19, which is linked to an outbreak at the Edith Cavell Care Centre.

There was also one COVID death in the Edmonton Zone, meaning the virus has now claimed the lives of 309 people in the province.

Provincially, 123 patients are currently hospitalized and 16 have been admitted to intensive care units.

1,753,379 tests have been completed among 1,250,099 different Albertans.

The regional breakdown for COVID-19 in Alberta is as follows:

  • Calgary zone – 11,554 cases, 1,672 active
    • 139 deaths
    • 46 in hospital, four in ICU
  • Edmonton zone – 9,365 cases, 2,290 active
    • 99 deaths (one new)
    • 62 in hospital, eight in ICU
  • South zone – 2,290 cases, 254 active
    • 28 deaths (one new)
    • Seven in hospital, three in ICU
  • North zone – 1,917 cases, 334 active
    • 35 deaths
    • Four in hospital, two in ICU
  • Central zone – 961 cases, 165 active
    • Eight deaths
    • Two in hospital

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community is as follows:

  • Brooks – 1,164 cases (two new), 30 active, nine deaths
  • Lethbridge – 463 cases (11 new), 155 active, three deaths (one new)
    • West Lethbridge – 172 cases (six new), 54 active, one death
    • South Lethbridge – 151 cases (three new), 49 active, one death (one new)
    • North Lethbridge – 140 cases (two new), 52 active, one death
  • Lethbridge County – 132 cases (three new), 24 active, one death
  • Cardston County – 108 cases, four active, five deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 92 cases (two new), seven active, two deaths
  • County of Warner – 71 cases, five active, one death
  • M.D. of Taber – 51 cases (one new), seven active
  • County of Forty Mile – 46 cases (one new), four active
  • County of Newell – 44 cases (two new), nine active, two deaths
  • Cypress County – 38 cases, five active
  • Fort Macleod – 33 cases, zero active, three deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 27 cases, zero active, two deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – Three cases, one active
