COVID-19 case at General Stewart Elementary and outbreak at Senator Joyce Fairbairn School

LETHBRIDGE, AB. — The Lethbridge School Division has a confirmation letter from Alberta Health Services, indicating a case of COVID at General Stewart Elementary and a second case at Senator Joyce Fairbairn Middle School.

The first case at Senator Joyce Fairbairn was confirmed on October 14.

As a reminder, the AHS defines an outbreak as: “TWO OR MORE confirmed cases in a school setting (staff/child) within a 14-day period (one incubation period) OR two or more confirmed cases staff child) that are epidemiologically linked.”

As well, a case of COVID has been confirmed at General Stewart Elementary.

Based on advice from Alberta Education, Senator Joyce Fairbairn Middle School will remain open and the General Stewart schedule will continue as normal on Wednesday, Nov. 4.

AHS is proceeding with defining close contacts of the two cases within the school context, and those individuals are being contacted by the school and will be required to quarantine immediately, for the 14-days.
