Two new COVID outbreaks in Lethbridge

Active COVID cases in Alberta surpass 8,000, up by nearly 2,000 in one week

LETHBRIDGE, AB – UPDATE: AHS has confirmed two COVID-19 outbreaks in Lethbridge with six cases (one active and five recovered) at Top Hat Adult Entertainment and six (all active) at the Good Samaritan West Highland Centre.

Alberta Health Services has released Tuesday’s report on COVID-19, covering statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

713 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 34,873. Of those, 8,090 cases are active while 26,407 people have recovered.

In just the last week, the number of active cases in Alberta rose by 1,980.

The new caseload includes 16 infections in the South Zone with nine communities each reporting no more than four positive tests.

Seven Albertans died from COVID since yesterday’s update with four in the Edmonton Zone, two in the North Zone, and one in the Calgary Zone. To date, COVID-19 has claimed the lives of 376 Albertans.

Provincially, 207 patients are currently hospitalized and 43 have been admitted to intensive care units.

Due to technical issues at AHS, updated lab testing data is not available.

It was announced last week that all communities under a COVID-19 watch list will be under new mandatory measures, including limiting social gatherings to 15 people. Local communities impacted include:

  • Lethbridge
  • Lethbridge County
  • M.D. of Taber
  • Cardston County
  • M.D. of Willow Creek
  • Vulcan County
  • County of Forty Mile
  • Cypress County
  • County of Newell
  • Brooks

The regional breakdown for COVID-19 in Alberta is as follows:

  • Calgary zone – 15,209 cases, 3,434 active
    • 156 deaths (one new)
    • 68 in hospital, 13 in ICU
  • Edmonton zone – 12,955 cases, 3,255 active
    • 142 deaths (four new)
    • 115 in hospital, 23 in ICU
  • South zone – 2,812 cases, 488 active
    • 31 deaths
    • 14 in hospital, four in ICU
  • North zone – 2,489 cases, 542 active
    • 38 deaths (two new)
    • Six in hospital, three in ICU
  • Central zone – 1,294 cases, 317 active
    • Nine deaths
    • Four in hospital

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community is as follows:

  • Brooks – 1,218 cases, 50 active, 10 deaths
  • Lethbridge – 678 cases (four new), 196 active, five deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 273 cases (one new), 91 active, one death
    • South Lethbridge – 230 cases (three new), 73 active, three deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 175 cases, 32 active, one death
  • Lethbridge County – 207 cases (three new), 71 active, one death
  • Cardston County – 123 cases, 16 active, five deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 119 cases (one new), 27 active, two deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 89 cases (two new), 34 active
  • County of Warner – 80 cases (one new), eight active, one death
  • County of Forty Mile – 73 cases (one new), 27 active
  • County of Newell – 69 cases (two new), 21 active, two deaths
  • Cypress County – 68 cases (two new), 30 active
  • Fort Macleod – 37 cases, four active, three deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 30 cases (one new), three active, two deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – Three cases, zero active
