LETHBRIDGE COUNTY, AB – Crews are beginning bridge upgrading work in Lethbridge County this week.

Two bridges are under renovation through the county’s 2020 Bridge Replacement program.

“Lethbridge County has an extensive network of roads and bridges which are essential to our producers and economy and ensuring this transportation system is safe and reliable is identified as a priority in the County’s Strategic Plan,” the county said in a release.

The first bridge is located 5.5 kilometres west of Monarch at the intersection of Township Road 10-2 and Range Road 24-3. It will receive internal structural upgrades and repairs. The county says these repairs will improve the bridge’s functionality and increase its lifespan.

Construction on Bridge File 1692 is set to start on November 23 and is anticipated to be finished in three to four weeks. Township Road 10-2 will remain open to two-way traffic for the duration of the project.

Bridge File 81684 is nine kilometres west of Nobleford at the intersection of Township Road 11-2 and a Lethbridge Northern Irrigation District canal. This project will see culvert replacements, which the county says will improve hydraulic efficiency and increase the bridge’s lifespan. Construction is scheduled to start November 16.

Work on that bridge is expected to be completed in four weeks. Township Road 11-2 will be closed for the entirety of the project.

Motorists are asked to observe all construction signage and be aware of crews working in these areas.
