Ag for Life launches Farmers in Flannel photo contest

Nov 16, 2020 | 3:24 PM

CALGARY, AB. – Agriculture for Life (Ag for Life) is launching its first ever “Farmers in Flannel” photo contest designed to celebrate farmers and a successful harvest.

When the leaves start to fall and the temperatures start to drop below zero, there’s no article of clothing that’s as omnipresent as the flannel shirt. They’re warm, soft and comfortable yet rustic and rugged all at once. Flannel can be traced back to the 17th century, where farmers wore flannel shirts to protect themselves from the elements. This tradition has continued to grow in popularity most likely due to flannel’s longevity, affordability and warmth, making it the perfect attire for Alberta farmers, and we want to see them ‘channel their flannel’ by submitting their photos.

By launching the Farmers in Flannel photo contest, Ag for Life hopes to bring some flannel-fun into people’s lives while we continue to maintain social distancing this fall season. The contest will run in Alberta from November 6 to November 30, 2020 and the winners will be rewarded with a warm his and her flannel gift pack from Ag for Life’s founding member UFA Co-operative Limited.

“Our Farmers in Flannel photo contest is a fun way to celebrate Alberta farmers as they ‘channel their flannel’,” says Luree Williamson, CEO, Ag for Life. “Many people don’t understand the hard work that goes into ensuring we have food on our tables, so by sharing these photos and stories we hope to shine some light on Alberta farmers and thank them for their countless hours of hard work.”

The Farmers in Flannel photo contest is open to all Alberta residents. One grand prize winner will be announced on December 1, 2020. Participants are encouraged to share their images online using the hashtag #channelyourflannel.

Ag for Life will share entries on its website and social media channels. To learn more about the Farmers in Flannel photo contest and how you can enter, visit www.agricultureforlife.ca/farmersinflannel.
