Record 1,105 COVID cases in one day in Alberta

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released Thursday’s report on COVID-19, covering statistics from the past 24 hours.

A new daily record for COVID-19 has been set with 1,105 cases confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 42,797. Of those, 10,382 cases are active while 31,964 people have recovered.

Saturday, November 14 was the first time that the number of new COVID cases was in the four-digits.

Among the new infections, 531 people tested positive in the Edmonton Zone as did 365 in the Calgary Zone. Combined, these two health regions made up about 80 per cent of today’s COVID caseload.

In the South Zone, 67 cases were confirmed with Lethbridge having the most at 14. Medicine Hat and the M.D. of Taber each had 11 new infections.

The region has 540 active cases with 163 of those being in Lethbridge.

Eight Albertans died from COVID since yesterday’s update including four deaths each in the Calgary and Edmonton Zones.

Provincially, 284 patients are currently hospitalized and 61 have been admitted to intensive care units.

Due to technical issues, laboratory testing data is unavailable at this time.

The regional breakdown for COVID-19 in Alberta, including numbers for the past three days, is as follows:

  • Calgary zone – 18,400 cases, 4,219 active
    • 180 deaths (four new)
    • 95 in hospital, 17 in ICU
  • Edmonton zone – 16,302 cases, 4,388 active
    • 182 deaths (four new)
    • 147 in hospital, 38 in ICU
  • South zone – 3,253 cases, 540 active
    • 36 deaths
    • 19 in hospital, five in ICU
  • North zone – 2,995 cases, 658 active
    • 42 deaths
    • 13 in hospital, one in ICU
  • Central zone – 1,706 cases, 508 active
    • 11 deaths
    • 10 in hospital

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community, including numbers for the past three days, is as follows:

  • Brooks – 1,245 cases (six new), 33 active, 11 deaths
  • Lethbridge – 815 cases (14 new), 163 active, seven deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 322 cases (four new), 56 active, two deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 280 cases (four new), 66 active, three deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 213 cases (six new), 41 active, two deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 259 cases (six new), 57 active, one death
  • Medicine Hat – 169 cases (11 new), 60 active, two deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 159 cases (11 new), 88 active
  • Cardston County – 140 cases (three new), 20 active, five deaths
  • Cypress County – 97 cases (six new), 44 active
  • County of Forty Mile – 91 cases (three new), 27 active, one death
  • County of Newell – 90 cases (three new), 25 active, two deaths
  • County of Warner – 88 cases (there new), nine active, one death
  • Fort Macleod – 43 cases, six active, three deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 33 cases, five active, two deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – Five cases (one new), two active
