LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Canadian Hockey League (CHL) has some exciting news for the gaming community.

In partnership with Kia Canada and support from veeZion, the CHL has announced the inaugural edition of the Memorial eCup presented by Kia.

The 64-team eSports tournament will feature all 60 CHL member clubs (the Western Hockey League, Ontario Hockey League and Quebec Major Junior Hockey League) plus four hockey personalities serving as guest participants.

The virtual tournament will feature one player representative from every CHL team displaying their gaming abilities in NHL 21 on the Sony PlayStation 4.

The Lethbridge Hurricanes will be represented by forward Justin Hall.

All matchups will be streamed on Facebook Live and Twitch.

Fans can also follow along on social media using the hashtag #KiaCHLeCup and at CHL.ca/MemorialeCup.

“We are thrilled to launch this property and it only makes sense to do so with an innovative partner in Kia Canada,” said CHL president Dan MacKenzie.

“The growth of gaming and eSports offers a new opportunity to stay better connected with our fans. It is also a fun way to give our players a chance to showcase their skills in a format that many of them enjoy in their spare time.”

The event will start as a single-elimination tournament with semi-final and final-round action seeing players go head-to-head in a best-of-three format.

Tournament play will start on November 28 with a 10-game set. The ultimate champion will be crowned on December 17.
