“Our current situation is grim,” says Dr. Hinshaw after another record-breaking COVID day

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released Friday’s report on COVID-19, covering statistics from the past 24 hours.

1,155 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 43,952. Of those, 10,655 cases are active while 32,835 people have recovered.

Thursday marked a new record of daily COVID-19 cases at 1,105. Just one day later, that has already been broken.

The new caseload includes 94 infections in the South Health Zone. Lethbridge had the most at 20 positive tests while the M.D. of Taber had 17, 13 in Medicine Hat, and 12 in Lethbridge County.

The South Zone now has 569 active infections which includes 157 in Lethbridge.

11 Albertans died from COVID-19 with seven deaths in the Edmonton Zone and one each in the South, Calgary, Central, and North Zones. To date, the virus has claimed the lives of 462.

The death in the South Zone was for a person from Lethbridge County. LNN is working to confirm any details with AHS.

Provincially, 310 patients are currently hospitalized and 58 have been admitted to intensive care units.

Due to technical issues, laboratory testing data is unavailable at this time.

The regional breakdown for COVID-19 in Alberta, including numbers for the past three days, is as follows:

  • Calgary zone – 18,801 cases, 4,272 active
    • 181 deaths (one new)
    • 99 in hospital, 17 in ICU
  • Edmonton zone – 16,801 cases, 4,520 active
    • 189 deaths (seven new)
    • 163 in hospital, 36 in ICU
  • South zone – 3,346 cases, 569 active
    • 37 deaths (one new)
    • 21 in hospital, four in ICU
  • North zone – 3,052 cases, 651 active
    • 43 deaths (one new)
    • 15 in hospital, one in ICU
  • Central zone – 1,800 cases, 564 active
    • 12 deaths (one new)
    • 12 in hospital

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community, including numbers for the past three days, is as follows:

  • Brooks – 1,251 cases (six new), 36 active, 11 deaths
  • Lethbridge – 835 cases (20 new), 157 active, seven deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 328 cases (six new), 53 active, two deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 284 cases (four new), 59 active, three deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 223 cases (10 new), 45 active, two deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 271 cases (12 new), 62 active, two deaths (one new)
  • Medicine Hat – 182 cases (13 new), 69 active, two deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 176 cases (17 new), 98 active
  • Cardston County – 145 cases (five new), 23 active, five deaths
  • Cypress County – 99 cases (two new), 38 active
  • County of Newell – 97 cases (seven new), 32 active, two deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 93 cases (two new), 23 active, one death
  • County of Warner – 89 cases (one new), nine active, one death
  • Fort Macleod – 46 cases (three new), nine active, three deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 32 cases, four active, two deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – Five cases, two active
