Shop of Wonders bringing holiday hope to Southern Alberta families

Nov 22, 2020 | 7:00 AM

LETHBRIDGE, AB – MyCityCare looks to help out families in need this Christmas season and are seeking those who are able to offer help as well.

Director Jennifer Tribble is looking to kick off this year’s Shop of Wonders.

“Shop of Wonders is a Christmas shopping experience for families that are going through either financial hardships or just need a little bit of help getting through the holiday season.”

“We provide a full shopping experience with gift wrap and personalized shoppers that will basically host families as they come through.”

Starting December 1, people will be able to drop off toy donations that can later be picked up by families in need by appointment.

Due to the financial and mental stress that the COVID-19 pandemic has had on many, Tribble is expecting demand for this service to be much higher this year.

In 2019, they served approximately 900 children from the Lethbridge area, and including parents, around 1,400 individuals.

This year, she projects that will be more than 1,000 children and as many as 1,700 total people.

While any and all donations are appreciated, there are a couple of areas where they will likely be needed the most.

“The 11-15 kind of age mark, we’re definitely seeing a big toy gap there as well as in the 0-2’s, so a lot of the babies and infant toys and that kind of stuff, so those would be two big ones we need help with in the moment, and as we get rolling, there will probably be more.”

MyCityCare will set up Lethbridge’s Shop of Wonders at the Fire Hall No. 1 on 402 2 Ave South while locations will also be available in Claresholm, Taber, and Okotoks.
