1,115 new COVID cases in Alberta on heels on new restrictions

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released Tuesday’s report on COVID-19, covering statistics from the past 24 hours.

The latest batch of numbers follows Tuesday afternoon’s declaration of a State of Public Health Emergency and the implementation of new restrictions.

1,115 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 49,536. Of those, 13,349 cases are active while 35,695 people have recovered.

The vast majority of today’s caseload was in the Edmonton and Calgary Zones with 541 and 426 respectively.

Just 31 of the positive tests were in the South Health Zone with Lethbridge and the M.D. of Taber having the most at five cases each.

16 Albertans have died from COVID since yesterday’s update with 14 of those being in the Edmonton Zone and two in the Central Zone. To date, the virus has taken 492 lives in the province.

Provincially, 348 patients are currently hospitalized and 66 have been admitted to intensive care.

2,141,346 tests have been completed among 1,426,119 different people.

The regional breakdown for COVID-19 in Alberta is as follows:

  • Calgary zone – 20,609 cases, 4,903 active
    • 186 deaths
    • 115 in hospital, 16 in ICU
  • Edmonton zone – 19,692 cases, 6,128 active
    • 208 deaths (14 new)
    • 169 in hospital, 39 in ICU
  • South zone – 3,559 cases, 649 active
    • 40 deaths
    • 25 in hospital, five in ICU
  • North zone – 3,343 cases, 764 active
    • 44 deaths
    • 21 in hospital, three in ICU
  • Central zone – 2,175 cases, 830 active
    • 14 deaths (two new)
    • 18 in hospital, three in ICU

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community is as follows:

  • Brooks – 1,271 cases (four new), 46 active, 13 deaths
  • Lethbridge – 886 cases (five new), 171 active, seven deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 344 cases (three new), 50 active, two deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 298 cases, 59 active, three deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 244 cases (two new), 62 active, two deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 295 cases (two new), 72 active, two deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 228 cases (nine new), 103 active, two deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 204 cases (five new), 98 active, two deaths
  • Cardston County – 156 cases (one new), 34 active, five deaths
  • Cypress County – 113 cases (three new), 39 active
  • County of Warner – 98 cases (one new), 17 active, one death
  • County of Newell – 96 cases (one new), 22 active, two deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 96 cases (one new), 20 active, one death
  • Fort Macleod – 47 cases, nine active, three deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 35 cases, five active, two deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – Five cases, two active
