LETHBRIDGE, AB – Yard waste sites across Lethbridge will close up for the season at the end of this month.

On Monday, November 30, all three City of Lethbridge yard waste sites will close. The city says to date, the sites have collected a total of 1.48 million kilograms of yard waste, which was diverted from the landfill.

The city says that’s the equivalent of 914 mid-sized cars.

Grass, leaves and garden waste collected is composted at the Waste & Recycling Centre and then used in city parks and for ground remediation at the landfill.

Since the springtime, the yard waste sites have been open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. at the following locations:

  • Bridge Drive West Recycling Station – at the top of Bridge Drive W. hill, right before the junction of Bridge Drive W. and University Drive.
  • Stafford Drive North Recycling Station – located at the junction of Stafford Drive N. and Scenic Drive N.
  • South Side Recycling Station – located at 28 Avenue S. between the Lethbridge Soccer Complex and Lethbridge Judo Club.

Following the closure of the yard waste sites for the season, residents can take materials to the Waste & Recycling Centre (landfill) for composting between December 1 and March 31, with no disposal fees charged on Saturdays.

The City of Lethbridge’s recycling stations, which collect cardboard, glass, tin cans and plastic, remain open all year.
