Blood Tribe: Roy Fox re-elected chief, eight new councillors chosen

STANDOFF, AB – The people of the Blood Tribe have chosen their elected leaders.

Note: As of this publication, the results are unofficial.

Eight candidates ran for Chief with incumbent Roy Fox garnering the most votes at 628, or approximately 22.8 per cent of the 2,752 ballots cast.

An astounding 88 people ran for 12 seats on council for the First Nation.

The councillor-elects include:

  • Traveller Plaited Hair – 931 votes
  • Clarence Roy Black Water – 584 votes
  • Dorothy Theresa First Rider (re-elected) – 582 votes
  • Piinaakoyim Buckskin Tailfeathers – 552 votes
  • Floyd Peter Big Head (re-elected) – 512 votes
  • Mickey Anthony Day Rider Jr. – 494 votes
  • Winston John Day Chief – 472 votes
  • Martin Heavy Head (re-elected) – 431 votes
  • Diandra Jae Bruised Head – 426 votes
  • Marcel Patrick Weasel Head (re-elected) – 426 votes
  • Richard Red Crow – 408 votes
  • Maria Bernadette Russell – 397 votes

As shown in the unofficial vote counts above, only four of the 12 current members of council are expected to serve another term.
