1,608 new COVID cases across Alberta Sunday, 23 new in Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A day after setting a new record high for daily COVID-19 cases, Alberta has seen another day with a large case count.

1,608 new positive cases were reported on Sunday, Nov. 29.

There are now 56,444 total cases in Alberta. Of those, 15,692 are active and 40,219 people have recovered from the virus.

435 people are in hospital with 95 in intensive care (ICU). Nine new deaths were reported on Sunday, bringing the provincial COVID-19 death toll to 533.

2,234,470 tests have been completed, with 23,282 listed on Saturday, Nov. 28. In total, 1,464,897 people have been tested.

The regional breakdown for cases in the province is as follows:

  • Calgary zone – 23,190 cases with 5,756 active
    • 195 deaths (one new)
    • 138 in hospital, 33 in ICU
  • Edmonton zone – 22,828 cases with 7,230 active
    • 234 deaths (six new)
    • 222 in hospital, 50 in ICU
  • South zone – 3,796 cases with 642 active
    • 43 deaths (one new)
    • 20 in hospital, five in ICU
  • North zone – 3,729 cases with 857 active
    • 46 deaths (one new)
    • 28 in hospital, two in active
  • Central zone – 2,678 cases with 1,101 active
    • 15 deaths
    • 27 in hospital, five in ICU

223 cases are in what’s listed as an “unknown” zone. 106 cases of those are active.

Below is a breakdown for the South Health Zone:

  • Brooks – 1,279 cases (two new), 44 active, 12 deaths
  • Lethbridge – 979 cases (23 new), 192 active, seven deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 380 cases, 65 active, two deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 323 cases, 54 active, three deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 276 cases, 73 active, two deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 319 cases (four new), 68 active, two deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 263 cases (six new), 107 active, four deaths (one new)
  • M.D. of Taber – 237 cases (six new), 92 active, four deaths
  • Cardston County – 164 cases (three new), 28 active, five deaths
  • Cypress County – 116 cases (one new), 24 active, zero deaths
  • County of Warner – 110 cases (two new), 27 active, one death
  • County of Forty Mile – 106 cases (two new), 22 active, one death
  • County of Newell – 101 cases (one new), 15 active, two deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 47 cases, four active, three deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 37 cases (one new), five active, two deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – Six cases (one new), two active, zero deaths

Additionally, Alberta Health Services has announced that as of Monday, Nov. 30, designated family/support and visitation is limited at all healthcare facilities in the South Health Zone.

“The decision was not made lightly. We must continue to do all we can to protect our patients & the staff caring for them,” AHS stated on social media.

“These guidelines will be in place, at minimum, for 14 days at which time they will be re-evaluated.”
