LPS operation results in drug trafficking charges

LETHBRIDGE, AB- Lethbridge Police arrested a Surrey, B.C. man on drug trafficking charges and seized a quantity of cocaine on Monday, November 30.

31-year-old Michael Abate has been charged with possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of the proceeds of crime over $5,000.

90 grams of cocaine was seized with a value of more than $9,000, and more than $7,400 in cash.

The investigation involved the Priority Crimes Unit and Crime Suppression Team and dates back to early November.

Police reported activity consistent with illegal drug transactions was observed and a search warrant was executed at a home in the 2000-block of Westside Drive and two related vehicles.

Abate was remanded in custody while awaiting a Judicial Interim release hearing.
