LETHBRIDGE, AB– Lethbridge will see three new upgrades and projects about to begin in the city.

$900,000 in provincial money will go towards upgrades for Festival Square Market Plaza in downtown Lethbridge.

The province has also contributed to two airport projects. $5 million is going towards the airport pavement rehabilitation and repair, and over $6 million for lighting system placement.

The announcement came from Mayor Chris Spearman, and Lethbridge-East MLA Nathan Neudorf, who say the upgrades are much needed for the city.

Although air travel has been restricted because of the pandemic, Spearman says Lethbridge needs these upgrades now and for the future.

“Investing in the airport means that we’re investing in our ability to grow our economic potential and be a leader in the region.” Says Spearman.

As for the upgrades to Festival Square Market Plaza, the project will attempt to make the area into a year-round urban plaza that can host various events for community organizations and local businesses.

According to the city, the projects are currently underway or will begin quite soon.
