Active COVID cases in Alberta surpasses 20K

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released Monday’s report on COVID-19, covering the statistics from the past 24 hours.

1,735 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 70,301. Of those, 20,067 cases are active while 49,603 people have recovered.

Approximately 80 per cent of the new cases were in the Edmonton and Calgary Zones who saw 814 and 584 positive tests respectively.

Meanwhile, in the South Zone, 56 people contracted the virus including 24 in Lethbridge.

The region now has 654 active infections with 250 of those being in Lethbridge.

Since yesterday’s update, 16 Albertans died from COVID-19 including 12 in the Edmonton Zone, three in the Calgary Zone, and one in the South Zone. To date, the virus has claimed the lives of 631 people.

The death in the South Zone was for a person from the County of Forty Mile.

Provincially, 609 patients are currently hospitalized and 108 have been admitted to intensive care.

With 20,358 tests being completed in just one day, there have now been 2,391,604 tests among 1,527,350 different people.

The regional breakdown for COVID-19 in Alberta is as follows:

  • Edmonton zone – 29,110 cases, 9,190 active
    • 299 deaths (12 new)
    • 335 in hospital, 63 in ICU
  • Calgary zone – 28,363 cases, 7,472 active
    • 213 deaths (three new)
    • 184 in hospital, 32 in ICU
  • North zone – 4,592 cases, 1,147 active
    • 51 deaths
    • 29 in hospital, five in ICU
  • South zone – 4,250 cases, 654 active
    • 49 deaths (one new)
    • 14 in hospital, three in ICU
  • Central zone – 3,705 cases, 1,473 active
    • 19 deaths
    • 47 in hospital, five in ICU

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community is as follows:

  • Brooks – 1,294 cases (two new), 28 active, 14 deaths
  • Lethbridge – 1,153 cases (24 new), 250 active, seven deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 445 cases (10 new), 91 active, two deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 363 cases (three new), 63 active, three deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 345 cases (11 new), 96 active, two deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 364 cases (seven new), 65 active, two deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 323 cases (five new), 92 active, five deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 279 cases (two new), 67 active, four deaths
  • Cardston County – 198 cases (six new), 39 active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 136 cases (one new), 32 active, two deaths
  • Cypress County – 126 cases (four new), 13 active, zero deaths
  • County of Newell – 116 cases (one new), 20 active, two deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 112 cases. 14 active, two deaths (one new)
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 56 cases (two new), 21 active, two deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 50 cases (one new), three active, three deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – Nine cases (one new), four active, zero deaths
