1,566 COVID cases confirmed in Alberta, just eight in Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released Thursday’s report on COVID-19, covering the statistics from the past 24 hours.

1,566 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 75,054. Of those, 20,163 cases are active while 54,225 people have recovered.

Approximately 84 per cent of the new cases were in the Edmonton and Calgary Zones who saw 943 and 371 positive tests respectively.

Meanwhile, in the South Zone, 39 people contracted the virus. This includes 10 in Medicine Hat and eight in Lethbridge.

Across the region, 601 cases are active with 229 of those being in Lethbridge.

Since yesterday’s update, 13 Albertans died from COVID including six in the Edmonton Zone, five in the Calgary Zone, and one each in the South and North Zones. To date, the virus has claimed 666 lives in the province.

The death in the South Zone was for a man in his 60’s from the M.D. of Taber.

Provincially, 682 patients are currently hospitalized and 124 have been admitted to intensive care.

With another 16,793 tests completed in the past 24 hours, there have now been a total of 2,444,373 tests done among 1,547,298 different people.

The regional breakdown for COVID-19 in Alberta is as follows:

  • Edmonton zone – 31,550 cases, 9,464 active
    • 316 deaths (six new)
    • 371 in hospital, 72 in ICU
  • Calgary zone – 29,865 cases, 7,304 active
    • 224 deaths (five new)
    • 201 in hospital, 40 in ICU
  • North zone – 4,982 cases, 1,247 active
    • 52 deaths (one new)
    • 33 in hospital, five in ICU
  • South zone – 4,378 cases, 601 active
    • 51 deaths (one new)
    • 20 in hospital, three in ICU
  • Central zone – 4,093 cases, 1,480 active
    • 23 deaths
    • 55 in hospital, five in ICU

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community is as follows:

  • Brooks – 1,302 cases (two new), 25 active, 14 deaths
  • Lethbridge – 1,195 cases (eight new), 229 active, seven deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 456 cases (one new), 79 active, two deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 374 cases (one new), 57 active, three deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 365 cases (six new), 93 active, two deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 377 cases (three new), 60 active, three deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 351 cases (10 new), 93 active, five deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 286 cases (three new), 50 active, five deaths (one new)
  • Cardston County – 210 cases (nine new), 43 active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 137 cases, 24 active, two deaths
  • Cypress County – 128 cases (one new), 12 active, zero deaths
  • County of Newell – 122 cases (two new), 22 active, two deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 112 cases, six active, two deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 64 cases (one new), 28 active, two deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 52 cases, five active, three deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – Nine cases, two active, zero deaths
