AHS confirms 1,738 new COVID cases, 18 deaths

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released Friday’s report on COVID-19, covering the statistics from the past 24 hours.

1,738 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 76,792. Of those, 20,161 cases are active while 55,947 people have recovered.

Approximately 81 per cent of the new infections were in the Edmonton and Calgary Zones, which saw 916 and 497 positive tests respectively.

Meanwhile, in the South Zone, there an additional 67 cases including 21 in Lethbridge and 10 in Medicine Hat.

The region now has 612 active cases and 232 of those are in Lethbridge.

Since yesterday’s update, 18 Albertans died from COVID, including 11 in the Edmonton Zone, five in the Calgary Zone, and two in the North Zone. To date, the virus has claimed the lives of 684 in the province.

Provincially, 684 patients are currently hospitalized and 123 have been admitted to intensive care.

With another 20,957 tests completed in the past 24 hours, there have now been a total of 2,465,429 tests done on 1,554,631 different people.

The regional breakdown for COVID-19 in Alberta is as follows:

  • Edmonton zone – 32,466 cases, 9,570 active
    • 327 deaths (11 new)
    • 378 in hospital, 73 in ICU
  • Calgary zone – 30,362 cases, 7,166 active
    • 229 deaths (five new)
    • 195 in hospital, 37 in ICU
  • North zone – 5,077 cases, 1,240 active
    • 54 deaths (two new)
    • 32 in hospital, five in ICU
  • South zone – 4,445 cases, 612 active
    • 51 deaths
    • 21 in hospital, three in ICU
  • Central zone – 4,247 cases, 1,502 active
    • 23 deaths
    • 58 in hospital, five in ICU

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community is as follows:

  • Brooks – 1,311 cases (nine new), 30 active, 14 deaths
  • Lethbridge – 1,216 cases (21 new), 232 active, seven deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 463 cases (seven new), 76 active, two deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 378 cases (four new), 58 active, three deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 375 cases (10 new), 98 active, two deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 385 cases (eight new), 63 active, three deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 361 cases (10 new), 95 active, five deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 286 cases, 46 active, five deaths
  • Cardston County – 215 cases (five new), 48 active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 138 cases (one new), 22 active, two deaths
  • Cypress County – 129 cases (one new), 12 active, zero deaths
  • County of Newell – 128 cases (six new), 18 active, two deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 112 cases, five active, two deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 69 cases (five new), 32 active, two deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 53 cases (one new), five active, three deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – Nine cases, two active, zero deaths
