Fort Macleod non-profit needs 1,000 boxes to make food deliveries

FORT MACLEOD, AB – A local charity plans to make a significant donation of food to families in need, but they need your help in packing it up.

The Fort Macleod branch of Calgary Family Peer Connections (CFPC) is a mental health organization that, during the COVID-19 pandemic, has started distributing food kits.

“Due to budget restraints and funding, we’re having to come together and find 1,000 brand new boxes that are all the same and that comes with a cost. We also are having a tough time getting enough gifts together to provide to the entire community,” says Director Jaquie Duhacek.

She adds the group has been fortunate to have a strong supply of food to give out.

On Thursday, December 17, CFPC is planning to bring “truckloads” of supplies to the Piikani Nation.

“We’re going to actually work with the people on the reserve and have a food distribution program where they’re all going to come together and we’re going to give out food.”

The program will work with a drive-thru model, but volunteers will also make deliveries to families who cannot drive.

Because CFPC is a mental health non-profit, Duhacek says it is important that every item they give out is respected – meaning they only give out food that is not dented or has any other significant blemishes.

“The respect is really important to us.”

Donations can be made in-person at CFPC’s Fort Macleod branch or online here.
