LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge Police held their first Christmas Check Stop over the weekend.

On Saturday evening, the annual campaign began and the Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) said the volume of traffic passing through was “consistent with previous years”.

Officers issued one impaired driving sanction under the new provincial impaired driving legislation that came into effect earlier this month.

Additionally, one motorist refused to stop at the check stop and another was found to be a suspended driver, according to LPS.

“While the Lethbridge Police Service is pleased to take dangerous drivers off the road and ensure a safer drive for everyone else, we are hoping the message gets out to everyone, and drivers will make alternate plans to get home if they have been consuming alcohol or drugs,” stated LPS.

Police say there were eight violation tickets issued. Two for learner drivers operating a vehicle without a supervisor, two for drivers who did not have their licence in their possession, two without subsisting license and one ticket each for a driver that had an expired license plate and one who had cannabis within reach.
