Active COVID cases in South Zone have fallen by 93 in one week

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released Tuesday’s report on COVID-19, detailing the numbers that were confirmed in the past 24 hours.

1,341 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 83,327. Of those, 20,649 cases are active while 61,934 people have recovered.

Approximately 82 per cent of the new infections were in the Edmonton and Calgary Zones who saw 592 and 502 positive tests respectively.

Meanwhile, in the South Zone, 45 people contracted the virus including 14 in Lethbridge and 10 in Cardston County.

From the same time last week, the number of active cases in the region has fallen by 93, and by 57 specifically for Lethbridge.

Since yesterday’s update, 11 Albertans died from COVID including 10 in the Edmonton Zone and one in the South Zone. To date, the provincial death toll has reached 744.

The new death in the South Zone was for a person from the M.D. of Taber.

Provincially, 742 patients are currently hospitalized and 137 have been admitted to intensive care.

With 16,353 tests completed in the last 24 hours, there have now been a total of 2,544,564 tests done among 1,581,863 different people.

The regional breakdown for COVID-19 in Alberta is as follows:

  • Edmonton zone – 35,603 cases, 9,946 active
    • 369 deaths (10 new)
    • 419 in hospital, 90 in ICU
  • Calgary zone – 32,668 cases, 7,331 active
    • 240 deaths
    • 203 in hospital, 35 in ICU
  • North zone – 5,538 cases, 1,250 active
    • 56 deaths
    • 35 in hospital, four in ICU
  • South zone – 4,594 cases, 553 active
    • 52 deaths (one new)
    • 20 in hospital, four in ICU
  • Central zone – 4,711 cases, 1,496 active
    • 26 deaths
    • 65 in hospital, four in ICU

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community is as follows:

  • Brooks – 1,318 cases (one new), 32 active, 14 deaths
  • Lethbridge – 1,276 cases (14 new), 207 active, seven deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 484 cases (eight new), 65 active, two deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 394 cases (six new), 52 active, three deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 398 cases, 90 active, two deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 396 cases (two new), 54 active, three deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 384 cases (eight new), 83 active, five deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 292 cases (two new), 35 active, six deaths (one new)
  • Cardston County – 229 cases (10 new), 52 active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 138 cases, 11 active, two deaths
  • Cypress County – 135 cases (three new), 14 active, zero deaths
  • County of Newell – 135 cases (two new), 17 active, two deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 112 cases, zero active, two deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 81 cases (two new), 38 active, two deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 55 cases, six active, three deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – Ten cases, three active, zero deaths
