No impaired drivers taken off the road at LPS Christmas Check Stop

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Lethbridge Police are reporting success with a recent Christmas Check Stop.

It was held on the night of Saturday, December 19.

No impaired drivers were taken off the road and no roadside breath samples were conducted.

However, one vehicle belonging to a suspended driver was seized, four warrants were executed for various offences, and five traffic tickets for violations including open liquor in the vehicle were issued.

“While traffic was lighter than usual, likely attributed to mandatory health measures under COVID-19, we hope the lack of impaired driving charges is also a sign that the message is getting out there and drivers are acting responsibly,” reads a statement from LPS.

This was the second check stop for the police department this month with the first being held the weekend of December 12/13.

These were the first pair of local check stops under Alberta’s new impaired driving legislation that came into effect December 1.
