COVID death reported in South Lethbridge, 1,021 cases confirmed in Alberta

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released its report on COVID-19 for Tuesday, detailing statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

1,021 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 92,480. Of those, 18,331 cases are active while 73,298 people have recovered.

That includes just 23 people in the South Zone including 15 in Lethbridge.

Since yesterday’s update, 11 Albertans have died from COVID with four of them being from the Edmonton Zone, two each from the Calgary, Central, and North Zones, and one from the South Zone.

The person from the South Zone was a woman in her 70’s from South Lethbridge.

Provincially, 802 patients are currently hospitalized and 152 have been admitted to intensive care.

With another 14,304 tests completed in the past 24 hours, there has now been a total of 2,671,156 tests done on 1,620,580 different people.

The provincial government made a trio of announcements Tuesday regarding COVID vaccine distribution, family gatherings over Christmas, and allowing some private health services.

Below is a breakdown of cases by health zone:

  • Edmonton zone – 39,690 cases, 8,644 active
    • 440 deaths (four new)
    • 466 in hospital, 87 in ICU
  • Calgary zone – 35,698 cases, 6,555 active
    • 277 deaths (two new)
    • 215 in hospital, 49 in ICU
  • North zone – 6,159 cases, 1,121 active
    • 62 deaths (two new)
    • 34 in hospital, five in ICU
  • Central zone – 5,566 cases, 1,462 cases
    • 36 deaths (two new)
    • 74 in hospital, nine in ICU
  • South zone – 4,813 cases, 412 active
    • 55 deaths (one new)
    • 13 in hospital, two in ICU

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community is as follows:

  • Brooks – 1,338 cases, 35 active, 14 deaths
  • Lethbridge – 1,354 cases (15 new), 155 active, eight deaths (one new)
    • West Lethbridge – 499 cases (three new), 44 active, two deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 435 cases (10 new), 61 active, four deaths (one new)
    • North Lethbridge – 420 cases (two new), 50 active, two deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 415 cases, 32 active, three deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 419 cases (two new), 70 active, six deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 301 cases, 15 active, six deaths
  • Cardston County – 249 cases (four new), 35 active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 142 cases, five active, two deaths
  • Cypress County – 139 cases (two new), 11 active, zero deaths
  • County of Newell – 136 cases, nine active, two deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 113 cases, one active, two deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 94 cases, 26 active, three deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 67 cases, 14 active, three deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – 11 cases, two active, zero deaths
