Lights of Hope campaign raising funds for healthcare workers

LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Chinook Regional Hospital’s atrium is lit up with special bulbs this month.

It’s part of the annual Lights of Hope campaign from the Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation (CRH Foundation).

“It’s one of the longest-running traditions that we’ve had at the Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation. What we do is we [invite] our donors and our supporters and anyone who’s interested to make a donation, whether it’s in memory of someone or in tribute of somebody that they love and appreciate…and it’s directed toward the hospital,” said Development Officer with the CRH Foundation, Shonna Lamb.

“We have these bulbs that light up the atrium and some people will choose to fill one out with the name of who the bulb is shining in memory of.”

The initiative takes place in December every year, and anyone looking to donate can do so anytime throughout the month. Lamb said the best way to do so is online.

“In general, these funds, these monies will go toward the greatest needs of the hospital. It’s always sort of evolving whether it’s a certain piece of equipment or an area of education and whatnot,” she told Lethbridge News Now.

Lamb said this year, the focus is on the hard work of all medical and support staff working day-in and day-out amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“We really wanted to recognize that our medical and support staff have gone above and beyond serving the community during the pandemic,” she told LNN.

“For this year, with Lights of Hope, we intend to ensure that all our staff, all of our departments, as we normally would, including the front-line staff are really equipped with everything that they need to continue to provide the best care for the community.”

Lamb thanks anybody willing to donate. Donor names will be listed on the CRH Foundation’s website until December 31.
