Active COVID cases fall below 400 in South Zone, less than 150 in Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released its report on COVID-19 for Wednesday, detailing statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

1,301 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 17,821. Of those, 17,821 cases are active while 75,050 people have recovered.

That includes 24 new positive tests in the South Zone with 10 of those coming from Lethbridge.

Active infections regionally and in the city continued to fall to 390 and 146 respectively.

Earlier this month, the South Zone became the region with the fewest cases to date and the fewest active cases out of Alberta’s five health zones.

Since yesterday’s report, however, 19 Albertans died from COVID including 12 in the Edmonton Zone, six in the Calgary Zone, and one in the North Zone.

Provincially, 821 patients are currently hospitalized and 146 have been admitted to intensive care.

With another 19,222 tests completed in the past 24 hours, there have now been a total of 2,690,432 tests done on 1,626,216 different people.

Below is a breakdown of cases by health zone:

  • Edmonton zone – 40,354 cases, 8,427 active
    • 452 deaths (12 new)
    • 475 in hospital, 83 in ICU
  • Calgary zone – 36,475 cases, 6,470 active
    • 283 deaths (six new)
    • 214 in hospital, 47 in ICU
  • North zone – 6,244 cases, 1,092 active
    • 63 deaths (one new)
    • 39 in hospital, four in ICU
  • Central zone – 5,669 cases, 1,391 cases
    • 36 deaths
    • 79 in hospital, 10 in ICU
  • South zone – 4,837 cases, 390 active
    • 55 deaths
    • 14 in hospital, two in ICU

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community is as follows:

  • Brooks – 1,339 cases (one new), 33 active, 14 deaths
  • Lethbridge – 1,364 cases (10 new), 146 active, eight deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 504 cases (five new), 41 active, two deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 440 cases (five new), 62 active, four deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 420 cases, 43 active, two deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 425 cases (six new), 65 active, six deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 415 cases, 31 active, three deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 301 cases, 15 active, six deaths
  • Cardston County – 251 cases (two new), 36 active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 142 cases, five active, two deaths
  • Cypress County – 139 cases, 10 active, zero deaths
  • County of Newell – 136 cases, five active, two deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 113 cases, one active, two deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 98 cases (four new), 25 active, three deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 67 cases, 14 active, three deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – 11 cases, two active, zero deaths
