1,287 new COVID cases in Alberta with 10 in Lethbridge

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released its report on COVID-19 for Wednesday, detailing statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

1,287 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 100,428. Of those, 14,555 cases are active while 84,827 people have recovered.

Approximately 82 per cent of the new infections came from the Edmonton and Calgary Zones which saw 657 and 399 positive tests respectively.

Meanwhile, in the South Zone, 29 people contracted the virus with 10 of them residing in Lethbridge.

Active cases in the region have fallen just below 300 while that number in Lethbridge has declined to 103.

Since yesterday’s report, 18 Albertans died from COVID including eight in the Edmonton Zone, six in the Calgary Zone, two in the Central Zone, and one each in the South and North Zones.

The person from the South Zone was a man in his 80’s who was a resident of the Bethesda Care Home in Picture Butte.

His death is linked to an outbreak at that facility. 22 people have caught COVID at the care home, of which, 13 are active and eight have recovered.

To date, COVID has claimed 1,046 lives in the province.

Provincially, 921 patients are currently hospitalized and 152 have been admitted to intensive care.

To date, 2,780,732 tests have been completed among 1,650,655 different people.

The provincial breakdown by health zone is as follows:

  • Edmonton Zone – 43,341 cases, 6,624 active
    • 515 in hospital, 83 in ICU
    • 552 deaths (eight new)
  • Calgary Zone – 38,610 cases, 5,129 active
    • 242 in hospital, 50 in ICU
    • 329 deaths (six new)
  • North Zone – 6,849 cases, 1,031 active
    • 57 in hospital, four in ICU
    • 66 deaths (one new)
  • Central Zone – 6,466 cases, 1,430 active
    • 94 in hospital, 12 in ICU
    • 41 deaths (two new)
  • South Zone – 4,983 cases, 296 active
    • 13 in hospital, three in ICU
    • 58 deaths (one new)

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community is as follows:

  • Brooks – 1,344 cases (one new), 17 active, 14 deaths
  • Lethbridge – 1,407 cases (10 new), 103 active, eight deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 517 cases (two new), 30 active, two deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 455 cases (six new), 47 active, four deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 435 cases (two new), 26 active, two deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 462 cases (six new), 63 active, eight deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 429 cases (five new), 32 active, four deaths (one new)
  • M.D. of Taber – 312 cases (three new), 16 active, six deaths
  • Cardston County – 271 cases (four new), 31 active, six deaths
  • Cypress County – 142 cases, seven active, zero deaths
  • County of Warner – 142 cases, zero active, two deaths
  • County of Newell – 138 cases, two active, two deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 113 cases, zero active, two deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 104 cases, 16 active, three deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 69 cases, two active, three deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – 11 cases, two active, zero deaths
