Active COVID cases fall below 100 in Lethbridge

EDMONTON, AB– Alberta Health Services has released its update on COVID-19 for Monday, detailing statistics compiled over the past 24 hours.

1,128 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 105,535. Of those, 13,839 cases are active while 90,554 people have recovered.

In Lethbridge, only 83 cases remain active. This is the first time in a few months that the city does not have triple-digit active infections.

Active cases for the South Zone have continued to fall to 266.

It has been five days since the province provided the provincial and community breakdowns due to the New Year’s holiday.

Because of the long stretch since we have had an in-depth breakdown, we are unable to say how many cases are new for each health zone or community for today’s report.

In the last five days, however, 96 Albertans have died from COVID-19. To date, the virus has claimed the lives of 1,142 people in the province.

This includes three deaths in Lethbridge County and one in Medicine Hat.

Provincially, 905 patients are currently hospitalized and 136 have been admitted to intensive care.

The provincial breakdown by health zone is as follows:

  • Edmonton Zone – 45,312 cases, 5,983 active
    • 607 deaths
    • 488 in hospital, 69 in ICU
  • Calgary Zone – 40,379 cases, 4,700 active
    • 357 deaths
    • 243 in hospital, 46 in ICU
  • North Zone – 7,459 cases, 1,284 active
    • 69 deaths
    • 62 in hospital, four in ICU
  • Central Zone – 7,069 cases, 1,523 active
    • 47 deaths
    • 94 in hospital, 15 in ICU
  • South Zone – 5,097 cases, 266 active
    • 62 deaths
    • 18 in hospital, two in ICU

The breakdown for the South Health Zone by community is as follows:

  • Brooks – 1,350 cases. 13 active, 14 deaths
  • Lethbridge – 1,440 cases, 83 active, eight deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 526 cases, 25 active, two deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 470 cases, 34 active, four deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 444 cases, 24 active, two deaths
  • Medicine Hat – 474 cases, 50 active, nine deaths (one new)
  • Lethbridge County – 447 cases, 33 active, seven deaths (three new)
  • M.D. of Taber – 317 cases, 16 active, six deaths
  • Cardston County – 288 cases, 31 active, six deaths
  • Cypress County – 143 cases, six active, zero deaths
  • County of Warner – 144 cases, two active, two deaths
  • County of Newell – 139 cases, three active, two deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 114 cases, one active, two deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 115 cases, 16 active, three deaths
  • Fort Macleod – 69 cases, two active, three deaths
  • Crowsnest Pass – 13 cases, two active, zero deaths
