BARNWELL, AB – Emergency crews safely located a missing person Sunday evening.

Gordon Yetman, Detachment Commander with Taber RCMP, said they received a call at about 5:21 p.m. January 3. He said a man had pulled off to the side of the road and ran out into a field in the Cranford/Barnwell area.

“He and [a] passenger were actually traveling, it sounds like, from Lethbridge to Medicine Hat. The driver pulled over on to the side of the road, got out of the vehicle and actually ran off or walked off into a field. It was at that point that the passenger called in and relayed to police what had happened,” Yetman told LNN.

“We treated it as a missing person right from the get-go.”

Yetman said the RCMP Police Dog Service assisted, along with the M.D. of Taber Regional Fire Service – Station 4 & 7 Taber/Barnwell.

The missing man was located following a two-and-a-half to three-hour search of the area.

“It turns out that the man had been in crisis and had run off into the field, either to clear his head or to just leave a situation,” Yetman explained.

“The biggest concern was that had it dragged on too long, he wasn’t necessarily dressed for the conditions had the temperature gotten any colder.”

Yetman said the man was found with no injuries.
