EDMONTON, AB– After multiple United Conservative Party members disobeyed public health guidelines for non-essential international travel, some have resigned from there positions.

Premier Jason Kenney has confirmed that he accepted the resignations of Municipal Affairs Minister Tracy Allard and Chief of Staff Jamie Huckabay.

MLAs Tanya Fir, Pat Rehn, and Tany Yao have lost their legislature committee responsibilities.

Also, MLA Jeremy Nixon will no longer be a Parliamentary Secretary and Jason Stephan will step down from the Treasury Board.

Kenney says that his guidance wasn’t clear enough, and took full responsibility.

“Last Friday, I took responsibility for not having been clear enough with members of the government caucus and others in positions of leadership that they should not travel abroad. Over the weekend I have listened to Albertans who are sending a clear message that they want real consequences for these actions,” Kenney says.

“My heart goes out to these families, who weren’t able to comfort their loved ones or who endured the death of a family member, and still made the right decision to protect their community from COVID,” said Sarah Hoffman, NDP deputy leader. “These Albertans showed tremendous integrity in the face of pain and loss, followed the rules, and stayed home to protect other families from losing a loved one.”

A total of ten UCP MLA’s and staff members travelled abroad over the holiday season. Allard will be the first to resign from her post.
