City offers prepayment options on property taxes for 2021

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Property owners in Lethbridge can possibly earn a discount when 2021 tax bills are issued later this year.

The City of Lethbridge says property owners can make prepayment toward their 2021 property taxes in January or in February. This will in turn result in a discount when 2021 tax bills are issued in May.

The discount will be the equivalent of earning interest at 0.75 per cent per year from the date of payment to June 30, 2021. The city notes that prepayment amounts cannot exceed the total property tax bill for the preceding year.

Property owners on the Tax Installment Prepayment Plan (TIPP) program already receive a monthly discount on their credit balance.

Residents can make payments in person at Lethbridge City Hall, by mail or by depositing payments in the night deposit box at City Hall. Another option for payment is via online banking.

The city says that the earlier prepayments are received, the greater the credit applied to the property owner’s 2021 tax account. The city is still accepting enrollment into the monthly TIPP as well.
