Fort Macleod RCMP investigating fatal collision

GRANUM, AB– After a collision near Granum, on January 7, 2021, Fort Macleod RCMP are leading the investigation.

RCMP responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 2, involving a semi-truck (tanker) and a pick-up truck, which resulted in the death of one man.

Preliminary investigation indicates the semi-truck was travelling westbound on Highway 519 near Granum.

The semi-truck turned northbound into the merge lane and was subsequently struck by the northbound pick-up truck.

A 33-year-old female driver from Lethbridge and a 29-year-old male from the Blood Tribe received non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a local hospital by EMS.

One of the passengers, a 26-year-old male also from the Blood Tribe was transported by ambulance however upon arrival at the hospital had succumbed to his injuries.

A 27-year-old female passenger also from the Blood Tribe was airlifted in critical condition by STARS to an area hospital.

Officials say the driver of the semi tanker unit was not injured.

The investigation is currently ongoing.
