Power outages force evacuation of some Lethbridge schools

LETHBRIDGE, AB – A major power outage impacting much of the city has led the Lethbridge School Division to evacuate some of its schools.

All schools east of the Oldman River (all north and south side schools) are being evacuated.

“We know a few schools still have power but evacuation only makes sense for the region given the unpredictable nature of the situation,” the division stated.

West side schools will continue to be monitored. The division said that busses will arrive between 11:45 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. for students whose parents have been contacted.

“Other students whose parents have not been contacted cannot board the bus,” said the division.

Supervision will be available for students remaining at schools until all students have left for home.
