785 new COVID cases in Alberta, 50 for South Zone

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released its COVID-19 update for Friday, detailing the numbers compiled over the past 24 hours.

785 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 115,370. Of those, 12,189 cases are active while 101,779 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, 50 people tested positive which includes 16 in Lethbridge and 12 in Cardston County.

Active infections grew slightly across the region and in Lethbridge.

Since yesterday’s update, 13 Albertans died from COVID including six in the Calgary Zone, five in the Edmonton Zone, and one each in the Central and North Zones. To date, the virus has claimed the lives of 1,402 in the province.

Provincially, 796 patients are currently hospitalized and 124 have been admitted to intensive care.

With another 13,575 tests completed over the past day, there has now been a total of 2,996,232 tests conducted on 1,708,255 different people.

As of the end of January 14, there have been 74,110 doses of COVID-19 vaccine administered in Alberta. Health Minister Tyler Shandro announced Friday that vaccine distribution will be temporarily slowed due to production issues at Pfizer.

  • Edmonton Zone – 48,647 cases, 4,355 active
    • 399 in hospital, 54 in ICU
    • 740 deaths (five new)
  • Calgary Zone – 44,134 cases, 4,657 active
    • 217 in hospital, 44 in ICU
    • 446 deaths (six new)
  • North Zone – 8,951 cases, 1,624 active
    • 77 in hospital, seven in ICU
    • 84 deaths (one new)
  • Central Zone – 7,960 cases, 1,152 active
    • 76 in hospital, 13 in ICU
    • 66 deaths (one new)
  • South Zone – 5,449 cases, 383 active
    • 27 in hospital, six in ICU
    • 66 deaths

Below is a breakdown of cases in the South Health Zone:

  • Brooks – 1,361 cases (three new), 10 active, 14 deaths
  • Lethbridge – 1,558 cases (16 new), 132 active, 10 deaths
    • West Lethbridge – 561 cases (four new), 37 active, two deaths
    • South Lethbridge – 522 cases (eight new), 59 active, seven deaths
    • North Lethbridge – 477 cases (four new), 36 active, one death
  • Medicine Hat – 512 cases (five new), 39 active, 11 deaths
  • Lethbridge County – 472 cases (one new), 34 active, seven deaths
  • Cardston County – 374 cases (12 new), 89 active, six deaths
  • M.D. of Taber – 323 cases (one new), 11 active, six deaths
  • County of Warner – 152 cases, nine active, two deaths
  • County of Newell – 147 cases (one new), six active, two deaths
  • Cypress County – 144 cases, three active, zero deaths
  • M.D. of Pincher Creek – 138 cases (three new), 23 active, three deaths
  • County of Forty Mile – 116 cases, two active, two deaths
