AHS reports 717 new COVID cases in Alberta

LETHBRIDGE, AB – Alberta Health Services has released its COVID-19 update for Saturday, detailing the numbers compiled over the past 24 hours.

717 cases were confirmed across the province, bringing the total to 116,087. Of those, 12,713 cases are active while 101,957 people have recovered.

In the South Zone, 31 people tested positive including 15 in Lethbridge and nine in Lethbridge County.

Active cases across the region and in Lethbridge have risen slightly.

Since yesterday’s update, 15 Albertans have died from COVID including seven in the Edmonton Zone, five in the Calgary Zone, two in the Central Zone, and one in the North Zone.

Provincially, 765 patients are currently hospitalized and 122 have been admitted to intensive care.

With another 12,439 tests completed over the past day, there has now been a total of 3,008,718 tests conducted on 1,711,622 different people.

As of the end of January 15, there have been 81,561 doses of COVID-19 administered in Alberta.

Below is a breakdown of cases per health zone:

• Edmonton Zone – 48,875 cases, 4,510 active
  • 379 in hospital, 54 in ICU
  • 747 deaths (seven new)
• Calgary Zone – 44,440 cases, 4,863 active
  • 213 in hospital, 46 in ICU
  • 451 deaths (five new)
• North Zone – 9,070 cases, 1,714 active
  • 74 in hospital, five in ICU
  • 85 deaths (one new)
• Central Zone – 8,133 cases, 1,209 active
  • 69 in hospital, 11 in ICU
  • 68 deaths (two new)
• South Zone – 5,480 cases, 400 active
  • 30 in hospital, six in ICU
  • 66 deaths

Below is a breakdown of cases in the South Health Zone:

• Brooks – 1,362 cases (one new), 11 active, 14 deaths
• Lethbridge – 1,573 cases (15 new), 147 active, 10 deaths
  • West Lethbridge – 567 cases (six new), 43 active, two deaths
  • South Lethbridge – 526 cases (four new), 63 active, seven deaths
  • North Lethbridge – 482 cases (five new), 41 active, one death
• Medicine Hat – 513 cases (one new), 39 active, 11 deaths
• Lethbridge County – 481 cases (nine new), 33 active, seven deaths
• Cardston County – 376 cases (two new), 90 active, six deaths
• M.D. of Taber – 324 cases (one new), 11 active, six deaths
• County of Warner – 153 cases (one new), 10 active, two deaths
• County of Newell – 146 cases, five active, two deaths
• Cypress County – 144 cases, three active, zero deaths
• M.D. of Pincher Creek – 140 cases (two new), 24 active, three deaths
• County of Forty Mile – 116 cases, two active, two deaths
• Fort Macleod – 81 cases, 12 active, three deaths
