Kainai schools to continue online learning “until further notice”

STANDOFF, AB – Students in the Blood Reserve will remain at home for the time being.

The Kainai Board of Education (KBE) was notified by Alberta Health Services and the Blood Tribe Department of Health that employees who work at the central office have tested positive for COVID-19.

Those individuals have been asked to quarantine.

The KBE central office will remain closed until January 25 and extensive cleaning protocols will commence. When the office reopens, staff will work on a rotational basis.

All schools in the KBE will continue with online learning effective January 18 until further notice.

The First Nation has seen a sharp rise in COVID-19 cases. Active infections grew from just three on January 4 to 65 on January 14.

The Blood Tribe also announced a series of new restrictions as well as support measures for members.
