LETHBRIDGE, AB – The Lethbridge Police Service (LPS) is doing its part for the environment.

The first of four hybrid vehicles in LPS’ fleet has hit the streets. Deputy Chief Scott Woods posted about the cruiser on social media this past week.

Lethbridge Police Chief Shahin Mehdizadeh said they’re testing out the vehicles to see if they will “bring value” to the service while also helping LPS save some money.

“There are four vehicles that we have right now and we certainly look at different measures to see if they are actually something we want to move forward with for a long time or basically go back to where we were before, or even [explore] other options,” he said.

“We’re always trying to explore different options to, obviously, look at different measures as far as what we can do to save money, to be more responsible from the environmental perspective etcetera, and this is another one of those attempts.”

Hybrid vehicles are said to reduce fuel costs, idling time and carbon emissions.
