Lethbridge Chamber applauding ease of COVID restrictions to help local businesses

Jan 18, 2021 | 2:04 PM

LETHBRIDGE, AB– Over the past month many local businesses were forced to close because of COVID-19 restrictions that came into effect in mid-December.

Businesses like hair and nail salons, spas, and massage therapists were all prevented from opening because of the increased COVID case count at the time.

Recently, the Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce voiced their concerns about these businesses having to remain closed while other retail stores can remain open.

Shortly after the Chamber released those remarks, the Alberta Government announced businesses like salons can reopen starting January 18th.

The Chamber is thankful the government made the decision to help businesses saying, “we are pleased to see these restrictions being lifted and people getting back to work. This is great news for small businesses, at a time when they desperately need it,” says Cyndi Vos, CEO, Lethbridge Chamber of Commerce.

“These expanded supports will help more job creators keep their staff and whether this volatile storm,” says Vos. “This will also ensure entrepreneurs have the confidence to open new businesses despite the challenging climate.”

From the release, Chamber staff say newly opened small businesses have seen a 30% drop in revenue or more throughout the pandemic.
